Community Biogas Cooperative
This is a possibility LushBert is actively exploring, not yet a running programme: a community-owned waste-to-energy model for housing estates, villages, waste-picker groups, NGOs and CSR initiatives — designed so that income is shared with the people who make the waste stream work.
The idea
Instead of treating waste collection as a cost to be managed, this model links community earnings directly to how well an on-site biogas unit performs: more clean waste in means more biogas, more potential fertiliser income and — where applicable — more carbon-credit value, shared back with the people doing the collecting and sorting.
Who this could be for
Housing estates & villages
Communities with a steady organic-waste stream and an interest in shared energy and fertiliser income.
Waste-picker groups
Organisations that already collect and sort waste, looking for a way to add value rather than just move waste on.
NGOs & CSR programmes
Organisations looking for a concrete, measurable waste-to-value project to support or co-fund in a community setting.
How it's designed to work
Scalable base unit
A base biogas unit sized to community-level daily waste volumes, with the ability to scale up using LushBert's containerised plant range as a community's waste stream grows.
Incentivised participation
Members are rewarded for consistent, correct waste segregation and day-to-day plant discipline — turning a chore into a source of income.
Shared value streams
Biogas, fertiliser and — where verified and approved — carbon-credit income, distributed back through a cooperative or community structure.
Where things stand
This model exists today as a concept and business case — it has not yet been piloted and no site, partner or financing has been confirmed. We are sharing it here because we believe it is an important opportunity, and because the right partner — a housing developer, county government, NGO, or waste-management group — could help take it from concept to a first pilot.
Could you be that partner?
If you work with a housing estate, community group, NGO, waste-picker organisation, or CSR programme in Kenya and this model interests you, we would like to talk.
Email [email protected]The Community Biogas Cooperative is an early-stage concept under review by LushBert (Lush Bert Ltd). It is not an active programme, and no figures, sites or partnerships described in early planning materials should be treated as confirmed.
